Shihan Luis A. Ruiz
Shihan Luis Ruiz was born on February 24, 1970 in Manhattan, New York, He lived in Brooklyn the first 8 years of his life. he then moved to Puerto Rico with his family.
His brother who had a passion for Karate was attending Shorinji-Ryu Karate classes and inspired him to begin his martial arts quest, becoming his first Sensei (Karate instructor) where he began learning Shorinji-Ryu.
His first official instructor was Tae-Kwon-Do Master Tan in Isabella, Puerto Rico, where he trained until red Blet. He then moved on to Kung-fu (Choy Lay-Fut) with Sifu Jose Ramirez and in a mixed tournament held in Puerto Rico he met Sensei Eddie Cardona & Wilfredo Herrera, a life changing moment for him.
​Shihan Luis began his training in Shotokan Karate-Do where he was immediately impressed by the dedication, discipline, control, and other incredible qualities that Sensei Wilfredo & Cardona had. Shihan Luis loved Karate with a passion.
Shihan Luis earned his way to a Black Belt under Eddie Cardona & Wilfredo Herrera Sensei and was tested for this belt under the umbrella of the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association. Shortly after receiving his Black belt, he decided to join the Army reserve where he was sent to Saint Louis Missouri for basic training and other additional training. After his Military training Shihan Luis returned to New York and having moved into the Bronx, NY he trained for one year under Erroll Bennitt Sensei. When he moved to Queens, he saw a Dojo one block from his house and began training under Jose Jordan Sensei a student of Master Thomas (LaPuppet) Carroll. Who was a member of the 1980 USA Karate team with the great Tokey Hill.
​Shihan Luis continues to train and is now a 5th degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate-Do, Under Master Keigo Abe, And Under the World Union Shotokan Association. He is a member of the USA National Karate Federation, Puerto Rico Karate Federation & The Pan American Karate Federation At the international level, he is a Double A Kata & Kumite Pan American Karate official and Represents Puerto Rico On The international stage.
